Visual Strategy Maps

Visual Strategy Maps have been proved to be among the most effective tools in terms of successfully communicating strategy messages. As such they are streets ahead of briefs, emails and one off events.

Well-documented research shows why. People remember:

  • Only 10% of what they read
  • 20% of what they hear
  • 30% of what they see
  • 50% of what they see and hear
  • 90% of what they say as they talk about something they see

Visual Strategy Maps are thus designed around two main principles:

1

Firstly the power of a visual to concretise abstract concepts (like “strategy”, “vision”, “values”) and enhance their memorability and

2

Secondly the power of a dialogue/conversation about the visual. This drives engagement, initiates and ultimately cements the internalisation process and results in mobilisation and action.

As a result of this innovative way of communicating strategy, employees understand the “big picture”, their role in it and ultimately what they need to do to deliver it.

An added benefit is that Visual Strategy Maps can be rolled out to every level of the company (despite language/culture/education differences) because the Visual Strategy Map Notes can be adapted as required.

Visual Strategy Maps also have longevity. They are not merely a one-off tool. Once employees understand the “big picture”/overall strategic context, adaptations to the strategy, new ideas or initiatives have a foundational anchor point. Visual Strategy Map Notes may be adapted as needed, and in this way Visual Strategy Maps become a living and sustainable engagement tool.

The parameters of the THINKspiration Visual Strategy Map can be constructed during the THINKspiration Strategy Workshop; enabling the content of the workshop to be rolled out to the entire business.
